Obituary

Guilderland- James (Jim) Joseph Rubino Sr., 84, of Guilderland, NY died peacefully on December 15th, 2021. He  was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 12, 1937 to Joseph and Anna (Massaro) Rubino. . He spent most of  his youth in Massapequa, NY where he graduated from Weldon E. Howitt High School in Farmingdale and continued his education at Oswego State in Upstate New York.  After college he joined the Army reserve where he stayed for the next 6 years.  He met Camille, his wife of 60 years, through his sister Joann, whom he adored.   He built a life with his wife and children, living many years in Westerlo, NY and then moving to Guilderland, NY where he spent his remaining years.

He loved spending time with his family.   His favorite thing to do was to spend time with his 6 grandchildren and great granddaughter.  Because he had such a wonderful sense of humor, the children loved being around him.  He could keep them entertained & make them laugh for hours, often slipping in lines from his favorite tv show (Seinfeld, “Serenity Now”), a favorite movie or just moonwalking across the kitchen.   He loved playing music at family gatherings where he would play piano, guitar and sing.

Jim was known to be a Mr. Fix it, able to fix anything. He loved sharing his skills and was always willing to help a friend or family member with a project.  Being a teacher at heart, he loved showing others how to do the things he could do, often loaning out tools because he had 5 of everything.  He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting with his son and nephews.  He enjoyed fixing lawn mowers with Jesse in the nice weather, going to Cooperstown in the summer and heading South in the cold weather with Camille, where they would enjoy time with their lifelong friends.

He is survived by his children; Cynthia Van Auken, Jamie (Joseph) Sacala, and James Rubino Jr. (Momoko), his grandchildren; Amanda (Dillon) Wachter, Sarah Sacala, John Sacala, Emily Sacala, Kimi Rubino, and Mia Rubino, his great granddaughter Annarose Wachter, his sister Joann Sala, his brother Joseph (Kathy) Rubino,as well as many loving relatives and close friends.
