William A. Dobies Jr.

William A. Dobies, Jr., 74, passed away peacefully at home on October 19, 2026 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Schenectady, NY on February 10, 1952 to the late Irene and William Dobies, Sr.

Billy leaves behind his beloved wife of 49 years, Susan A. Dobies. He is also survived by his sister, Katherine Mayba (John), nephews, Christopher Mayba (Katrina, Nina, Alana) and Nicholas Mayba, sister-in-law, Arlene Cuomo, and nieces, Sharon Welch (Paul), Stephanie Cuomo and Amanda Nellis (Joe).

Billy was a graduate of Schalmont High School and Schenectady County Community College. When Billy wasn’t tending to his yard, he enjoyed road trips through the Adirondacks and New England. But his real joy was woodworking. A carpenter all of his life, he could turn a piece of wood into anything, whether a structure or furniture, or an invention to fix a problem. He was a gifted craftsman.
