Maureen T. Provost

Aug 1, 1958 — Oct 24, 2026

Ballston Lake

Our hearts are broken to announce the death of Maureen (Fitzgerald) Provost on October 24, at the age of 68. She passed at Albany Medical Center from complications following surgery for ovarian cancer. Maureen was an anchor for our family: caring, strong, creative and happy.

Born on August 1, 1958 Maureen was the daughter of the late Joseph Fitzgerald and Geraldine Leopardi of Cortland, NY. She graduated from Cortland High School in 1976 and received an associate’s degree as a paralegal from Herkimer County Community College in 1978. Maureen met her future husband, Ken, while studying there.

In her 47-year career as a paralegal, she was a founding member of the Paralegal Association and in 2009, received their Membership Award for outstanding service and professionalism. In February 2014, Maureen passed the Paralegal Advanced Competency exam through the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc., and was awarded the Registered Paralegal credential. She finished her career as a beloved member of the Wilcenski & Pleat Law firm in Clifton Park, NY.

Maureen was a creative card maker and seamstress. She loved flower gardening, yard work, hiking, spending time at the beach and traveling, including recent trips to Ireland and Iceland. Maureen loved spending time with family and friends and there was never a day that went by that she did not make someone feel thought of. Maureen was also deeply rooted in her Catholic Faith.

Maureen is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Ken Provost. Ken and Maureen tragically lost their son, Dan Provost, in 2014. She is also survived by her brother, Joe (Maureen) Fitzgerald, her sister, Nancy Ford Fitzgerald and many heartbroken nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Maureen and Ken used the tragedy of losing their son as a springboard to raise awareness and remove the stigma of substance use disorder. Maureen will be deeply missed by all who were gifted to know her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 10:30 AM, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville, NY. A reception with coffee and baked goods will immediately follow in the banquet hall, adjacent to the church.
