After 62 years of marriage, Marvin T. “Marv” Dennison, 82, and Charlotte S. (Ferguson) Dennison, 82, both of Rotterdam, passed away within 36 hours of each other. Marv passed away unexpectedly at home on May 3, 2021, and Charlotte passed peacefully at home on May 4, after battling an illness.
Born in Schenectady, Marv was the son of the late C. Leslie and Mary (Middleton) Dennison. Marv graduated from Guilderland HS and received his Associate’s degree from HVCC. Marv dedicated himself to the community for 40 years as a member of the Rotterdam District #2 Volunteer Fire Dept., where he proudly served a term as Chief. He was also employed by Knapp Service and Nemith Motor Company. Following his retirement, he worked for several years at French’s Hollow Fairway Golf Course.
Born in Salem, Massachusetts, Charlotte was the daughter of Albert E. and Dorothy (Shepherd) Ferguson. Charlotte attended Guilderland HS and was employed in an administrative position at Bank of America.
They spent summers traveling with their family, especially to Salisbury Beach and the Thousand Islands. Charlotte loved admiring the beauty of lighthouses and the ocean. In his younger years, Marv enjoyed drag racing and rebuilding cars. Most recently, you could find him relaxing with his dog, Penny, by his side. Charlotte and Marv both cherished family gatherings and never missed an opportunity to gather and celebrate.
They were loving parents to their five children; Richard (Theresa) Dennison, Deborah (Lyle) Willey, Martin Dennison, Cheryl Paju, and David (Carmen) Dennison, and the proud grandparents, known affectionately as Meme and Popeye, to Thomas (Lisa) Dennison, Amanda Willey (Tyler), Morgan Willey (Matthew), Abigale Paju, and the late Gregory Dennison.
Marv is survived by his brother Bruce of New Hampshire and predeceased by his brother, Douglas. Charlotte is survived by her sister, Barbara (Ernie) Adams of Georgia, who devoted the last month to spend by her sister’s side.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6-8 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave.
