We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Rotterdam
Myrtle Beach, SC- Chester J. VanBumble “Chet”, 75, passed on June 4, 2022. Chet was born in Kingston, NY on March 4, 1947. He was the devoted son of the late Donald VanBumble and Marguerite (Lane) VanBumble. He resided in Rotterdam, NY as well as Scotia, NY and later moved to Myrtle Beach, SC.
He was a graduate of Bishop Gibbons High School and later graduated from Albany Jr. College. Chet was a Vietnam Veteran, proudly serving as a MP in the US Army in 67’–69’ and was stationed in Ft. Gordon, GA and Fort Hood, TX.
He had a long career as a professional truck driver at General Electric in Schenectady and was a past union officer of IUE-CWA Local 301. After his retirement he reinvented himself and started a successful title research company, MK Lane Abstract.
Chet was an avid NASCAR fan who traveled to many races. He also enjoyed the NY Yankees and Green Bay Packers. He loved the time spent with his family at Sacandaga Lake, fishing. He also enjoyed reading, golf and coaching his daughter’s, and later granddaughters’, softball teams. His first love and greatest enjoyment was the time he spent with his daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren.
Forever in the hearts of his beloved daughters; Melissa (Mike) Brady and Kelly A. (Tony) Prest; grandchildren Mackenzie VanVranken, Madison VanVranken, Michael Brady, and Andrew Brady. He is also survived by his brother, Donald VanBumble and several nieces and nephews.
His family would like to thank the staff at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center for their competent and compassionate care during the last months of his life.
Calling hours will be Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 1:45pm – 2:45pm, followed by a service celebrating Chet’s life, at the Demarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam, NY 12306.
