Guilderland- Mary Josephine (Persico) Otter of Guilderland, NY passed away on Saturday, May 15th, 2021 at home from natural causes. Born in Gloversville, New York, Mary was the daughter of the late Lucy and Albert Persico and the devoted wife of fifty years to Andrew W. Otter Jr.
Mary graduated from Gloversville High School in 1960 and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of Albany, where she and her husband met. She earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education from The College of Saint Rose. After working for many years at Wildwood Programs, she changed career paths and worked as a Probation Officer for Albany County until her retirement.
She is survived by her husband, two sons; Andrew and Joseph (Abigail Ritter) and three grandchildren; Jonah, Rachel, and Isaac, sister Cheryl Susser of Orange Park, Florida, her nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Sarah in 2012. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and doting grandmother.
Mary was a lifelong advocate for those with developmental disabilities. She served for many years on the Board of Directors, including Board President, for Schenectady County ARC. Mary loved spending time with her family, doing latch-hook, and was a particular fan of the historical writing of her uncle, Joseph Persico. She had a special fondness for the cardinal bird species and was a devoted New York Mets fan, watching every game with her husband.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 10am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Turnpike, Guilderland, NY 12084.
