Schenectady-Mrs. Marie Palumbo, age 97, a native of Schenectady, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Vero Beach, FL on January 31, 2023.
She was born in Schenectady on July 31, 1925, daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Gallo) Delafano and educated in Schenectady schools. She was united in marriage with Stephen Palumbo in Schenectady, on Feb. 16, 1946, a blessed and loving union of 56 years until the passing of Stephen, on December 19, 2002. Mrs. Palumbo was last employed as a secretary with the South Colonie School District. She was a devout communicant of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Rotterdam.
In her spare time, Marie enjoyed reading and cooking. She loved Elvis Presley and was affectionately known by her family and friends as “bad gamma”.
She leaves her daughter, Joanne Wagner and husband Rich of Schenectady; her two grandsons, John Reynolds and Stephen Palumbo; sisters, Helene Palumbo and Betty Maddalone and husband Mike, all of Schenectady; one niece and four nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Denise Palumbo in 2013. There are no calling hours. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, Feb. 10, 2023 from Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Rotterdam, commencing at 10:30 am with The Very Rev. James Belogi, Pastor, officiating. Procession will follow to Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna where entombment will take place alongside her husband.
