Rotterdam - Vincenzo Urbano, 98, of Rotterdam, peacefully passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving family. Vincenzo was born on July 5, 1922 in Broccostella, Italy to Felice and Cristina (Castellucci) Urbano. He was the youngest of seven siblings. He served in the Italian army at 19 years old. From there, he travelled and worked all over the world, including in Brazil and France, and owned his own cafe in his hometown of Broccostella. In 1950, he married the love of his life, Elena Ferri. Vincenzo and Elena went on to have three children, Anna, Mario, and Rocco. Vincenzo moved to Schenectady, NY in 1972. He worked at Cappiello Dairy, where he retired after 14 years. His garden was a great source of pride for him. He could always be found in his garden with his wife Elena not far behind; tending to his hundreds of tomato plants and other vegetables. He often had so many plants in his garden, that he shared them with his neighbors at his small front yard bancarella stand. He loved canning tomatoes, curing his own prosciutto, and most of all, making homemade wine, all of which he loved to share. His kitchen table was often filled with family and friends. He loved to visit and laugh, often over a glass of his wine or cup of espresso. Vincenzo’s proudest accomplishment and greatest joy of his life was his family. Vincenzo is survived by Elena, his wife of 70 years; his children Anna (Carlo) Martellaccio, Mario (Christine) Urbano, and Rocco (Mirella) Urbano; five grandchildren, Roberto (Anna) Martellaccio, Diane (John) Fiacco, Michelle Urbano, Vito (Kelley) Urbano, and Fabio Urbano; seven great grandchildren, Luca, Noah, Rocco, Lia, Nicholas, Lorenzo and Elizabeth; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be held Monday January 11th from 7:30-10 am at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. A 10:30 am Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace 210 Princetown Rd., Rotterdam. Entombment will immediately follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, NY.
