Sandra M. Sobieski

Rotterdam – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved wife, devoted mother, and loving grandmother, Sandra M. Sobieski, on October 5, 2023 at the age of 77. Sandy peacefully passed, with her husband at her side, to be with our Lord after a long battle with cancer. Born in Schenectady she was predeceased by her Father V.J.(Doc) Rickard and Mother Viola Rickard, and Sister-in-law Carolyn Rickard.

Sandy graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and attended Mildred Elly Secretarial school. She accepted a position with the N.Y.S. Police, leaving to begin a family. After the children were older she began a position as a Teacher Aid at the Schalmont CSD, retiring after 20 years.

Sandy leaves behind her Loving Husband of 57 years John A. Sobieski, Jr., Daughter Jennifer Sobieski, Son John A. Sobieski III, Grandsons John A. Sobieski IV, and Tyler M. Sobieski, and Brother William Rickard (June), and several Nieces and Nephews.

Sandy had a remarkable outgoing personality, always the life of the party, having fun. Her co-workers and all her students adored her. Her devotion and kindness to helping her students was boundless. She will be fondly remembered.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 5-7 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam.

Funeral services will begin 9:45 am Friday at the funeral home followed by a 10:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church 210 Princetown Rd., Rotterdam.
