Schenectady - Teresa F. Ullman of Schenectady, passed on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Albany Medical Center Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 84.
Born in Schenectady on January 28th, 1937 Teresa was the daughter of the late Corrado and Rosina (Ingrassia) Costanzo. Teresa graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1956. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent thereafter, taking the name Sister Rose Helena. Teresa served with the Sisters of St. Joseph’s for 10 years. While serving at the Convent, Teresa also attended the College of St. Rose in Albany and received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduation from St. Rose Teresa (Sister Rose Helena) began her teaching career that spanned many years in the surrounding areas, including Utica NY, Glens Falls NY, & Hudson NY.
After leaving sisterhood, Teresa continued to educate in the Capital District, most notably at John J. Bigsbee elementary school. Her most told story was letting everyone know that she taught 50 students in her morning Kindergarten class followed by 51 students in her afternoon Kindergarten class. After a break from her professional career to raise her boys, Teresa returned to teaching as a paraprofessional with the Schenectady City School District, retiring in 2007.
She was a past member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and its Church Choir. Teresa was a longtime, faithful, member of the Catholic Church.
Teresa was predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years, Edwin C. Ullman, whom she married on November 21, 1970, her son; Jonathan Thomas Ullman, who died in 1974, parents;, Her brother and sister in law; Frank and Theresa Costanzo, sisters and brothers in law; Antoinette and James Riggi, Mary and Joseph Collamer and Helen and Anthony DiFulvio, brother in law and sister in law; Dave and Barbara Ullman and her father in law and mother in law; Herbert and Hazel Ullman.
She is survived by two children; Stephen (Stacy) Ullman, Rotterdam, Thomas Ullman, Schenectady & her Grandchildren Karlie & Katherine Ullman along with several nieces, nephews & cousins. Her “favorite” of which and always will be Marianne Zarelli, whom she considered her best friend.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 6 -8 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave.
Funeral services will begin on Thursday, 8 am from the funeral home followed at 9 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke’s Church.
Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
