Santo DiPalma, 94, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 12, 2016. Born in Ruviano, providence of Caserta, Italy, Santo was the son of the late Angelo and Irene (Maffea) DiPalma. Santo honorably served in the Italian Army during World War II. Santo came to America for the first time on June 10th, 1971 with his wife. He traveled back and forth many times to visit his family. Very proud of his Italian heritage, Santo adored his family and going on Catholic pilgrimages. He enjoyed traveling to America from Italy. He had a love for gardening and in Italy his grape vines, lemon, fig and olive trees. He loved animals especially birds. Santo loved life, spending time with family and friends and praying. He had a special devotion to St. Leone of Magno, a patron saint of his hometown. Besides his parents, Santo is predeceased by his beloved wife, Rosina (Perretta) DiPalma whom he was married to for 67 years. And his daughter, Irene DiPalma, who's birthday he passed away on, his brothers, Bernardino, Vincenzo, Santo, Olindo and Pasqualino and sisters, Rosa and Maria. Left to mourn his loss is his daughter, Angela Palmieri (Domenico), grandchildren, Santo Palmieri, Nina Venturiello (David Huffman) and Antonio Palmieri (Kimberly), great grandchildren, Maria Venturiello, Bobby Venturiello, Angelo South, Santo Palmieri, Jr., Tiffany Palmieri and Natalie Colberg. He also leaves behind one great great grandson, Dimaant Francis as well as many relatives. The family would like to thank Dr. Andrea Carrasco, Dr. Christine Buhlinger and the staff of Hospice; Heather RN, Cindy and Ruth for all of their help, support and dedication with his care. A prayer service will take place Friday at 8:15am at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam followed at 9 AM by a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at Mt. Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St. in Schenectady. Calling hours will be Thursday evening from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Entombment will be in St. Cyril and Method Cemetery, Rotterdam. Memorial contributions in Santo's name can be made to Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144 and to Mt. Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St. Schenectady, NY 12303.
