Margaret M (Amiccuci) Schumaker

Margaret M. (Amiccuci) Schumaker, 67, of Rotterdam, died at home in the arms of her loving husband, on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, after fighting a long and courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma for the last 3 years. Margaret was the daughter of the late Anthony and Stella Dominelli Amiccuci, and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1969. She was employed by New York State for over 38 years, retiring from the Department of Taxation and Finance, in 2012. Margaret was passionate about her faith, her family and devoted to Our Lady through the Rosary. She was a past Trustee and longtime member of St. Paul the Apostle Church. As a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church, Margaret was instrumental in bringing the Lifeteen program to St Paul’s, a program for youth whose motto is to lead teens closer to Christ. Margaret believed strongly in Catholic education, as a foundation for children in the early stage of their lives. A lifelong volunteer throughout the community, Margaret was involved with various organizations including; serving as Chairperson of the St. Paul’s Family Festival for over 10 years, helping out at the St. Clare’s Hospital Cardiac Classic race, the Ladies of Charity, and a member of Stitch of Heart where she made numerous newborn hats for local hospitals and prayer shawls for those in need. Margaret was known for her famous Gennettes (Lemon Cookies) and for her great cooking and baking. Every September you could find her on Jay Street at the Italian Fest making her famous Zeppole. In her free time, she loved vacationing and making memories with her family on the beach, spending time cooking and baking with her grandkids, going camping, taking long drives and playing cards and games. Margaret had perfect attendance to all her children and grandchildren’s sporting events with her famous red horn and cowbell in tow, making sure she was as loud and supportive as could be. Margaret is survived by her soul mate of almost 40 years, Robert D. Schumaker, two children, Karla (Salvatore) Ravida and Steven (Maria) Schumaker, Three sisters, Ann Marie Jantsch, Loretta (Gerald) DeAngelus and Linda (Dave) Becker, three brothers, Anthony (Cheryl) Amiccuci, John (Cathy) Amiccuci and David (Leah) Amiccuci, and her grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye, her “Little Men” Christian, Giuseppe, Salvatore, Giovanni and Stellan. She is also survived by several brother and sister in laws from the Schumaker side of the family. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 – 5 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin on Monday, 8:45 am from the funeral home, followed at 9:30 by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in Margaret’s name to St. Madeleine Sophie School, 3510 Carman Rd. The family would also like to thank Dr. Hussain, Jill McDonald and the rest of the staff at NYOH for their tender love and care for Margaret over the past few years as well as Dr. Shah and her staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering Center. The family would also like to thank Marilyn Christman, Margaret’s friend of over 50 years for her guidance and advocacy throughout her battle with the disease.
