Giuseppe J. Sgueglia

Fruita, CO – Giuseppe J. Sgueglia, 42, passed away unexpectedly at home in Colorado on Monday, February 20th, 2023.

Giuseppe was born in Schenectady to his parents, Giuseppe “Joe” Sgueglia and the late Maria (Ciampi) Sgueglia.

An incredibly bright person, Giuseppe excelled academically throughout his education. He graduated from Exeter High School in Pennsylvania, receiving 4 college scholarships. He went on to earn his Bachelors degree in Biology from SUNY Albany.

Giuseppe was an avid piano player and could play many classical pieces without sheet music. He was also fluent in Italian and German.

He will be fondly remembered for his infectious laugh and smile, his love of life and his ability to make people laugh.

Above all things, Giuseppe adored spending time with his family and friends, especially his beloved nephews and niece and his cousin/best friend, Antonio.

Giuseppe leaves behind to cherish his memory his father, Giuseppe “Joe” Sgueglia (Gloria); his brothers, Luigi Sgueglia (Angela), Antonio Sgueglia and Mario Sgueglia; his nephews, Giuseppe Sgueglia, Marco Sgueglia, Francesco Sgueglia and Matteo Sgueglia; niece, Alyssa Mule; great-niece, Alessia Moses; first cousins here and in Italy, Raffaele Ponsillo, Esther Ponsillo, Filippo Fulgieri, Serena Fulgieri, Marissa Correra, Gabriella Correra, Jasper Krikorian and Seanna Krikorian; his aunts, Vincenza Ciampi, Caterina Ciampi, Rita Sgueglia (Giuseppe Ponsillo) and Antonietta Sgueglia (Giovanni Fulgieri) as well as many second cousins, great-aunts and great-uncles.

He was predeceased by his mother, Maria Ciampi Sgueglia and grandparents, Luigi and Esther Sgueglia and Antonio and Antonietta Ciampi.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 2nd from 10am-1pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue in Rotterdam. A prayer service will follow, beginning at 1pm. Giuseppe will be laid to rest at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Schenectady.
