Obituary

Schenectady - Doris (Dunster) Liggett of Schenectady, NY passed into eternal life on December 31, 2020, at the age of 94.

Doris was born in 1926 in Middle Granville NY, the daughter of English immigrant parents, Charles & Mary Ann Dunster.  She graduated from Granville High School in 1944 and Ellis School of Nursing in 1947 as a navy cadet nurse during WW II, though she was not called to serve, as the war had ended.

She married Lionel (Jim) Liggett in 1947 and they had five children.

Doris enjoyed watching Jeopardy (don’t call at 7:30!!), playing cards & Scrabble, and reading.  She and Jim spent many happy summers at the camp they built together at the Great Sacandaga Lake, a gathering place for their family & friends.

Doris’ family, both immediate & extended, meant everything to her and was the focus of her life.

She was predeceased by her husband, parents, all seven of her siblings, daughter Barbara Becker and son-in-law Scott, daughter-in-law Linda Liggett, granddaughter Jacqueline Liggett, and son-in-law Bruce Becker.

She is survived by her children John Liggett, Darlene (Paul) Massaro, Michele Becker, and Kathleen (Nicholas) Rizzo; grandchildren James Becker, John Liggett, Jr., Jason Becker, Jaime Muscato, Jodi Baum, Janine Brooks, Jordan Becker, and Jennifer Lombardo; great-grandchildren Melody, Brett, Megan, John Paul, Dylan, Sophia, Jacob, Brody, Isabella, Jared, Allison, Nalia, Matthew, and Grace.

Her family extends deep appreciation to Dr. Steven Goldberg, Drs. Padula & Shieh, as well as her many other doctors over the years; the kind & caring staff at Ellis Hospital A-3, and to Community Hospice for her final care.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a private funeral service for her immediate family only.  Burial will be at Viewland Cemetery.
