Rotterdam - Anna Mae Giella Sobieski 85, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, September 12 at Kingsway Arms. Born August 5, 1932 in Schenectady, NY she was the daughter of Rose DiDonna Haik and Alphonse Giella. She is predeceased by her husband Leon “Sob” Sobieski who were married on August 10, 1953. Anna Mae met “Sob” on a blind date setup by a mutual friend after that she never looked back. Early in her career she worked for the GE and the State of NY until she became handicapped. She was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her family. Once Sob retired they enjoyed traveling to Florida each winter, Maine in the summer, Myrtle Beach and Saratoga. She loved to be surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her four children: Eddie (Deborah) Sobieski, Katherine Kelly, David (fiancée Linda) Sobieski, Laura (Jeff) Manchester. Her daughter-in-law, Linda Sobieski. Six grandchildren: Elizabeth (Thomas) Borkowski, Jenna Kelly, Emily Sobieski, Brianna Kelly and Amelia Sobieski and Kaitlyn Manchester. Two Great Grandchildren: Madelyn and Jacob Borkowski Her Sister, Patricia (Richard) Hollister and her maternal Aunt Louise Paypach. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her step-father, Stanley “Shorty” Haik. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Francois Vachon and his staff at Capital Care; Her cardiologist, Dr. David Armenia; her pulmonologist, Dr. Eugene Goykhman and the amazing, caring staff at Kingsway Arms Nursing home. Relatives and friends are invited to DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam on Friday from 12-1:30 pm. A 2 pm Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Luke’s Church. Burial will follow at St. Adalbert’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National MS Society or the Association of the Blind.
