Niskayuna - Angelo J. Salamone, 94, of Niskayuna, passed peacefully at his home on July 2nd surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on February 20, 1927 in Schenectady, the son of the late Thomas and Teresa Salamone.

Angelo was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy where he was later inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.  He went on to enlist in the U. S. Navy as an ensign on the USS Sicily during World War II.  After serving his country, he graduated from Spencer Business Institute.  He then began the family business, Salamone’s Department Store that grew into a specialty retail venture, Uniform Village, which is now called UV Image Experts on Eastern Parkway.  

Angelo cherished his family and provided them with every opportunity to succeed in life.  For years he received immense pleasure vacationing at his Lake George cottage where he formed lifelong friendships at Rainbow Beach Association. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years Rose, his five children Bonnie (Lee) Strader, Donna (Harvey) Singer, Elaine (John) Ciccarelli, Kathleen Salamone Garrett, Tom (Anne) Salamone, nine grandchildren, one great granddaughter.  He is also survived by his brother Joseph, his sister-in-law Cornelia Salamone and predeceased in death by his brother Frank. 

Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening, July 6 from 5:00-8:00 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Wednesday at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church 1803 Union St., Niskayuna.

Burial, with military honors, will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
