Glenville - Zigmunt M. “Ziggy” Poteralski, 88, formerly of Rotterdam passed away on Saturday, January 30th, 2021. Ziggy was born in Schenectady, the son of the late Zigmunt F. and Mary (Cetnar) Poteralski. Ziggy attended local schools and later proudly served as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He was employed for 22 years with West End Brewery and also operated, for many years, Zig Poteralski Stand in Rotterdam. After retiring, he worked for his best friends at Frog Pond Farms in Bainbridge, NY. Ziggy was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed a good joke and an occasional game of bingo. Above all things, Ziggy was an amazing and devoted grandfather. He was predeceased in 2006 by his wife, Mary Densmore Poteralski and his son, Robert Poteralski. Ziggy leaves behind his children, Mary (Raymond) Durocher, Richard (Kathleen Bobb) Poteralski, Joseph (Robin) Poteralski,Zigmunt F. (Kim) Poteralski, and Theresa (John) Skutnisky; his beloved grandchildren, Amymarie Skutnisky, Valerie Blais, and Kyle, Alex, Matthew and Jonny Poteralski;2 great grandchildren as well as his siblings, Paul (late Evelyn) Poteralski, Patricia (John) Clark and Lottie (George) Paige. He also leaves behind daughter-in-law, Lisa Poteralski, step-daughter, Renee Aldi (late Bob) as well as numerous other step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 12thfrom 9:15-10:15am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam.A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11am at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Rd., Guilderland. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Schenectady.
