William A Schieffelin

Guilderland - William A. Schieffelin, "Bill", a long time local sports figure, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday July 19, 2015 at the age of 76. Born in Rochester, NY in 1938, Bill married his high school sweetheart Judith Welch in 1960; they were married for 55 years. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956-1962. Bill was an avid golfer and bowler with two perfect 300 games. A graduate of SUNY-Brockport and UNC-Chapel Hill, Bill taught athletics locally for 50 years, retiring in 2014.Bill was a physical education professor and men's head soccer coach at UAlbany from 1964 - 1986, coached professionally with the Albany Eagles of the American Soccer League in 1980 -1981, moved to Hudson Valley Community College as Athletic Director from 1986-1996 and remained active as an adjunct athletics professor at the College of Saint Rose from 2001 -2014.He was SUNY Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1979 and women's soccer Gold Medal winnerin the 1978 Empire State Games. He is survived by his wife Judith of Guilderland NY, his son Steven Schieffelin and grandchildren Celia and Drew of Irvington NY and his daughter Sandra Schieffelin of Rotterdam, NY. A memorial service will be held 11am Saturday August 1, 2015 at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 5216 Western Turnpike (just west of Carman Rd.), Guilderland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bill's honor to his granddaughter's fundraiser at the Dolphins Cancer Challenge.
