William L Irwin

June 30, 1936 — July 11, 2015

William (Bill) Irwin of Guilderland passed away peacefully on Saturday July 11, 2015, surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Albany, NY, son of the late Lawrence S. and Julia Fullerton Irwin. He was a graduate of Albany High School and Cornell University and was honorably discharged after serving in the New York State National Guard. Bill spent 33 years working for New York State Division of Budget and retired in 1994 as a Budget Examiner in the Executive Department. Bill was a longtime member of Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church and served on many church committees. Bill was also a Life Member of the Guilderland Volunteer Fire Department and served in the capacity of both civil and line officer positions including past Chief. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and enjoyed his trips to Florida to visit family and firehouses along the way. Bill is survived by his wife of 54 years Shirley (Salisbury) Irwin, two brothers, James (Victoria) Irwin and David (Millie) Irwin, a brother in-law Edward Salisbury and sister in-law Helen (Charles) Mahony. He is also survived by his three children, David (Marie) Irwin of Ft. Walton Beach, Fl., Scott (Laurie) Irwin of Clifton Park, NY and Diane (Hugh) Irwin of Ballston Spa, NY; five grandchildren, Sarah (Mike) Thomin, Samuel (Allison) Irwin, Zachary Irwin, William Irwin and Rachael Irwin; a great-grandson Titus Thomin and several nieces and nephews.Family and friends are invited to call at Guilderland's DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, Inc., 5216 Western Turnpike (just west of Carman Rd.) on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, 2291 Western Ave, Guilderland, followed by an interment at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland.
