William Michael Foley, Sr., age 85, passed away peacefully at Albany Medical Center on Thursday, June 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Schenectady, NY on December 15, 1938, son of Elsie and Bernard Foley. Bill joined the United States Air Force after graduating from Mont Pleasant High School and proudly served thirty-five years in the Air National Guard, retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. While in the service, he was able to travel to more than twenty countries and most of the U.S. states. Bill worked for UPS, retired at the age of 58 and started a third career, working for his beloved New York Yankees with his wife during spring training in Tampa, Florida for 27 years.
Bill loved watching and working for the Yankees. You could find him on the patio every night during the summer with Pam and his family watching the game. He also loved to watch his grandchildren play sports – it didn’t matter where or what, he just wanted to be there. Each grandchild would have Papa’s full attention and focus during the games. This past year, he was thrilled to see his son-in-law, Jim, umpire a baseball game. Bill loved to spend time in Hampton, NH, visiting with friends, his son’s family and just being by the ocean. St. Petersburg, Florida was his second home for the last 27 years where many family and friends gathered much to his delight. Bill enjoyed home improvement projects and would drop everything to help anyone. He always saw that his properties were immaculately maintained and did that work on his own.
Bill is predeceased by his mother, Elsie and his father, Bernard Foley; and his two brothers, Richard and Thomas. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Mary Ann (Franchetti) Foley, his four children: Kim Foley of Schenectady, NY; Susan Tino (James) of Ballston Spa, NY; Pam Pouchak (Brian) of Schenectady, NY; Billy Foley (Pamela) of Hampton, NH; six grandchildren: Angela Tino, James Tino (Emily), Amanda Squires, Samantha Duryea (Derrian), Taylor Foley and Alex Foley; and three great grandchildren: Hailey Squires, Sonny Tino and Dawson Duryea.
We would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Albany Medical Center ICU for giving us strength and encouragement during Bill’s stay.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life – John 3:16
