William J. Doberneck, 91, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Schenectady on February 7, 1932, Bill was the son of the late John and Eleanor Doberneck. After graduating from Mont Pleasant High School, Bill entered the US Air Force. He honorably served during the Korean War, stationed in Japan and the United States. In 1955, Bill married his beloved wife, the late Leona B. Martini. Together they shared 58 years of marriage until her passing in 2013. Throughout their married life, he was happiest by her side, tending to their garden, cooking and baking, traveling, and spending time with family. After completing the GE Apprentice Program, Bill spent his entire professional career as a Draftsman at the GE Knolls Atomic Power Lab, Niskayuna. For several years, Bill worked as an instructor, sharing his knowledge with drafting apprentices. After 42 years of employment, Bill retired, but remained active in the field as a consultant. He also enjoyed part time work at DeMarco-Stone and Glenville Funeral Homes. Bill was a dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and very involved in the church community. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, and he held numerous volunteer roles with the Mt. Carmel Seniors Organization. Bill was also a Parish Trustee, a member of the Finance Committee and Parish Council, and chairperson of the annual Mt. Carmel Festa several times. Bill is survived by his three loving daughters; Debra (Thomas) Dalton of Rotterdam, Donna (Vincent) Lowndes of Poughkeepsie, and Diane (Michael) Nagle of Guilderland. “Papa” was the proud grandfather of Brian (Anna) Dalton, Allison (Devis) Ceci, Sara (Chris) Quetant, and Benjamin (Nancy) Dalton; James (Vinessa) Lowndes, Ellen (Ryan) White, and Daniel Lowndes; Andrew Nagle and Emily Nagle. “Papa” was also proud to be great grandfather to Noah and Samuel Dalton, Jack and Victoria Lowndes, Lana Quetant, and Tucker Ceci. He was eagerly anticipating the arrival of two additional great grandchildren. Bill is also survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, as well as several nieces and nephews. On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, visitation will be held beginning at 8:30 Am to 10:15 AM at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St., Schenectady. Private family burial will follow.
