William (Bill) Cain, age 88, passed away with family by his side on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Kathryn Cain. Children: Kim O’Connor (Pat O’Connor) and Karyn Tucker (Tom Tucker) and 7 grandchildren: Katie Bodenschatz (David Bodenschatz), Tim O’Connor, Michael O’Connor, Margaret O’Connor, Brendan Erb- O’Connor (Chris Erb), Abby Tucker and Hannah Tucker-Plummer (Kyler Plummer).
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Cain and Cordelia (Fontaine) Cain.
Bill Cain was born and raised in Schenectady, NY. Married in 1958 to the love of his life and high school sweetheart Kathy Tash. Bill worked for the Schenectady Chemical Company and then United Parcel Service. Upon retirement, Bill enjoyed many hobbies including, golf, watching baseball games, mall walking, and coffee with friends. First and foremost was his love of hunting and fishing. Building a camp in Ausable Forks, where he enjoyed many years of his sports with friends. Family regularly spent weeks in the spring and summer months sharing his favorite hobbies. He taught sons-in-law and grandchildren who were interested in what he had to teach.
He was a valued member of a number of area organizations and clubs, including: The Marine Corps League – Electric City Detachment, VFW – Ausable Forks and others. The Iroquois Rod and Gun Club, NYS Teamsters and the Schenectady Ole Timers Baseball Club.
He was a proud Marine and volunteered his time with whatever service that was asked. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and became an instant friend to whomever he met. He had the gift of gab and a contagious smile and laugh. He helped neighbors and friends as if they were family, always ready to help.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 13, from 4-7 pm, at The DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave, Schenectady. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 14, at 10 am, at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 2501 Troy-Schenectady Rd.
