Wayne D Smith

Rotterdam – Wayne D. Smith, 68, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023 at home after a long illness. Born and educated in Schenectady, he was the son of the late William and Evelyn (Emmer) Smith. Wayne was a teamster with Local 294 for 18 years, retiring in 2003. He was an amateur HAM radio operator with the call letters, K2BUX. He was a lifetime member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge and the Guan-Ho-Ha Fish and Game Club. Wayne was a communicant of St. Madeleine Sophie Church. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Nichols Smith; his son, Blake Smith (Stephanie Walton); his grandchildren, Connor Smith, Isabella Walton, Nicholas Ralston and Emily Wilson; step-daughter, Laura Wilson (Scott). A graveside service will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Wayne’s name may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.
