Burnt Hills - Wayne E. Eckler, age 89, passed away after a short illness on December 14, 2021. Wayne was born to the late Harry and Mary Eckler on October 3, 1932. He graduated from Cooperstown High School, served in the United States Army and was a career draftsman for General Electric. Wayne was predeceased by his beloved wife, Michelene Eckler, in 2001 and his longtime companion, Marjorie Oles, in 2018. He is survived by four children, Theodore (Judy) Eckler, Linda (Mark) Klompas and their children Rebeca (Tim) Fayette, Danielle (Axel) Gonzalez, Matthew Klompas, Jonathan Klompas & Madison Klompas, Laurie Eckler and her children Todd & Trevor Michalec, and Timothy (Melissa) Eckler and their children Oliver and Isaiah. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. Wayne was a proud member of the Burnt Hills Fire Department for 49 years. He held many positions including Firefighter, Fire Police, Lieutenant - line officer, President of the Fire Company, Commissioner and Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners. Many of Wayne’s longtime friends are fellow members of the Burnt Hills Fire Department. Wayne liked camping and hunting. He was a loving and patient family man. He also liked playing cards, doing crossword puzzles -- and drinking a good Manhattan. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours on Thursday, December 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam, NY 12306.
