Rotterdam - Walter “Mack” J.McDougall, 93, of Rotterdam, passed peacefully on Thursday, February 24, 2022. Walter was born in Albany, NY. In his early 20’s he began working as a Firefighter with the City of Albany. Following his retirement, Walter worked as a meat cutter with the Albany Public Market in Albany and the Star Market in Glenmont. Later in life he kept busy doing odd jobs including working as a cabdriver for many years in Albany. He loved talking to people and driving them around. He also did painting and worked at Freihofer’s Baking for a time. Walter volunteered at the Cerebral Palsy Center entertaining children as “Macko the Clown” and doing magic shows. Walter was an accomplished Tuba player and was a proud member for many years of the Yankee Doodle Band at the Ft. Crailo American Legion Post in Rensselaer NY. Walter had a great sense of humor. He always tried to bring laughter to anyone he encountered. He was predeceased by his beloved wifeDolores Wade McDougall who died in 1988, his father, William McDougall Sr., his mother figure, Clara Stark, his son, Walter McDougall Jr, his brother, William McDougall Jr and two sisters, Margaret Lovelace and Loretta Delamater. Walter was a loving “Pop” to his daughters, Charlene Bettcher (Tom) of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Sheila McDougall of Niskayuna, two grandchildren, Christopher DiMura and Kelly Mucci and four great grandchildren, Jaimie Albright, Dylan Mucci, Anthony Mucci and Cecelia Mucci. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5-7pmat the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin at 7pmat the funeral home. Burial will be at Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery in Glenmont, NY at a later date. Walter’s family requests any memorial donations be made in his name to the American Heart Association at heart.org.
