Walter E Jewell

Rotterdam- Walter E. Jewell, 86, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Baptist Health Nursing & Rehabilitation in Scotia following a long illness. Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Albert and Gertrude Vibbard Jewell. After graduating from Albany High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly his country. Walt was stationed in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1956. Following his military service, he went to work for United Traction Company, which later became CDTA, and retired after more than 30 years of service. To keep busy in retirement, Walt worked part time for Hess Corp. at various Schenectady locations. Walt was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church in Niskayuna and the KAPL Mixed Bowling League. He loved being around the public and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Survivors include his wife, Judith Hart Jewell, two sons; Edward (Renee) Jewell and Walter (Diane) Jewell, one daughter; Michelle (Dale) Arnold and six grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their friendship, support and compassion while caring for Walt. Calling hours will be held Saturday from 4-6 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin at 6 pm at the funeral home.
