Glenville - Vincent H. Canali Jr., 70, of Glenville, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Ellis Hospital. He was born on July 29, 1952, son of the late Vincent H. and Theresa Rose (Sirgiovanni) Canali. Vincent graduated from Linton High School in 1970, and previously attended Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons. He was a man of Catholic faith. Vinny, nicknamed, “The Vin Man”, was a Mixologist by profession. Years prior to Vinny being born, his father Vincent Sr., returned from serving in World War II, used his GI Bill and founded Canali's Restaurant in Rotterdam with his sister, Jean (Canali) Alteri. Vinny could be found behind the bar at Canali’s when he was young, and continued working there for many years. Vinny worked at General Electric in the Turbine Department as a welding inspector for seven years before shifting to Mixology full-time. After the death of his father, Vinny departed the family business, and became the owner and operator of DaVinci’s Ristorante in Schenectady, where he created two cocktails, “The Vin Man” and “Chocolate Ecstasy”. He had a true gift for telling stories, making people laugh with his terrific sense of humor, and kept conversations going into the wee hours of the morning. He worked in the food industry throughout the duration of his incredible 40 year career of excellence in the restaurant business. He had an unmatched reputation to please his clientele, serving and entertaining thousands of customers, friends and family throughout the course of his calling. Vinny had a knack for keeping the cleanest bar for his patrons, whom were loyal and returned to see him,and was something he cherished. He later worked as food andbeverage manager for area country clubs, and retired in 2008. Vinny was a caring man and always put others first. He enjoyed annual trips to Florida in the summer with his family. Music by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Healey were some of his favorites. When Vinny was young, he enjoyed playing guitar, and frequented some of classic rocks biggest acts at the former local venue, The Aerodrome in Schenectady.He enjoyed a wide range of movie and TV show genres.George Carlin was one of his favorite comedians, and he enjoyed watching the show, “American Idol”. He was a fan of the New York Yankee’s, and Raiders football team. He was a talented billiard player and had a gift for hustling playing pool as a young man. He was an excellent bowler. Vinny enjoyed cooking and made an exceptional pasta sauce. Vincent is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Marilyn (Sprague) Canali, his beloved children, Mark V. Canali of Clifton Park and Rebecca S. Canali (Marc Guthan) of Schenectady, his sister, Grace L. Canali of Dubai UAE, Sister in-law Carol (Richard) Woolson of Tennessee, Brother in-Law Bob Sprague of Delmar, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved cat, Gabriel. Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022 from 10 am to 12 noon at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Rotterdam.A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1pm at St. Luke’s Church, 1241 State St. Schenectady, NY 12304, followed by burial service at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
