Rotterdam - Vincent B. Navaretta, beloved husband of Sylvia M. Navaretta, died July 18th, 2016 at Ellis Hospital. He was born in Schenectady on July 7th, 1928 and was the son of the late Patrick and Frances (Altieri) Navaretta. Vincent served 2 years in the US Navy, getting his honorable discharge in 1948. A graduate of Nott Terrace High School, Vincent worked as a sheet metal worker with Local 83 and started his career as a journeyman then executive board member and later vice president of the union. He was also an instructor in the apprenticeship program in later years. He also worked for the Watervliet Arsenal for 7 years until his retirement. He is predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Sylvia Navaretta who died in May of 2016 as well as his brother, Fred (Kip) Navaretta. Vincent leaves behind his three daughters, Sylvia Benson (J. Alden II) of Texas, Deborah Navaretta of Scotia and Denise Goodell (Robert) of Glenville, his sister, June Wolff (Richard) of Vestal, NY, his grandchildren, J. Alden Benson III, Audrey Magyar (Justin), Jonathan Goodell (Jacqualyne) and Jason Goodell (Kaitlyn), his great grandchildren, Angelo, Luciana, Lorenzo, Aliyah and Claire as well as several nieces and nephews. Vince’s family would like to thank the staff at Ellis Hospital for all their help over the past 2 weeks. The family would also like to thank Nancy Van Brocklin for taking care of him for the past several years and his 2 special neighbors, Gail Shoemaker and Brenda Torosian for all they have done over the years for Vince and Sylvia. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 21st from 4-6pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. in Rotterdam. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Funeral services will begin on Friday at 9:15am from the funeral home, followed at 10am at St. Gabriel’s Church, 3040 Hamburg St., Rotterdam where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Cyril and Method Cemetery in Rotterdam. Contributions in Vince’s name can be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 501 New Karner Rd. Ste. 6, Albany, NY 12205.
