Vincent Bonafede, 89, passed away on March 2, 2016 with his daughter by his side at Our Lady ofMercy Life Center in Guilderland. Born in Amsterdam, NY on February 21, 1927, he was predeceased by his parents, Christopher and Vincenza (Vacarro) Bonafede as well as 3 sisters and 4 brothers. In 1949, he married Marguerite Vottis of Schenectady. They had 2 children, Vincent M. Bonafede and Patricia Lee Hunt. When World War II began, Vincent enlisted in the US Navy. He served on two cruisers, the USS Fall River and USS St. Paul as a gunnery mate. He received the American Theatre Medal, the Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal. After returning home, he worked for 16 years at Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam as a weaver. He was most proud of being part of the team that wove a rug for the Oval Office in the White House. When the mill closed in the 1960's he became a partner in the Vottis Pipe Shops of Albany and worked until his retirement in 1991. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marguerite (Vottis) Bonafede of Guilderland, his daughter Patricia L. Hunt (James) of Niskayuna and his son Vincent M. Bonafede (Joann) of Troy. He has 5 grandsons, Vincent R. Bonafede (daughter Vinessa), John Bonafede (wife Lisa, children Brianna, Jack and Jeana), Steven Bonafede (daughter Marlo), James Hunt (wife Cynthia, daughter Rosalie) and Ian Hunt (wife Alisha). He is also survived by his dear brother-in-law, Dr. Patrick Vottis (wife Patrita) as well as several nieces and nephews. By Vincent's request, interment with full military honors will take place at Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY on Friday, March 11 at 11am.
