Rotterdam – Victor R. Mavente (also known as Papa) passed peacefully on July 11th 2017 after a short illness surrounded by his loving family and friends. Victor was born on March 21st 1938 to Gregory and Theresa (Maiorana) Mavente of Schenectady N.Y. He graduated the former Nott Terrace HS in Schenectady. Victor served 6 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and continued his service with the National Guard 210th 1st Armored Battalion based in Albany NY. Victor was trained as a mechanic in the Military. He followed his Military service at Wedekind Motors as a Master Mechanic for 40 years. After his retirement he worked part time for his family’s business Delorey’s Rest. & Bar. Victor is survived by his first wife Donna Lee (Stephen) LaBarge of Rotterdam NY and their three daughters. He is the loving father of Hope (Brendan) Cavanaugh, Melissa (Gary) Koretnicki-Mavente , Victoria (Greg) Britten all of Rotterdam NY. Victor is also survived by his former wife Alecia Schmidt of Schenectady NY. He is also survived by his 7 loving grandchildren Brooke, Christian and Matthew Cavanaugh, Jack and Kimberly Koretnicki, and Alek and Bailey Britten. Victor is also survived by his younger sister Mary Bianchini of Buffalo, N.Y, along with several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his three older brothers Phillip, Richard and Gregory Mavente. Victor loved spending his time at the “Breakfast Club” with his close friends Gary Cota, Big John Pendergast and many other wonderful friends at Deloreys. Victor enjoyed spending time with his friends at Play by Play. He was active in the local Golf, Darts, APA Pool and Bowling leagues along with his Annual Cruises to the Caribbean. It is impossible to describe the impact Victor (Papa) had on his family, friends and the world. He would always have a friendly smile, a happy whistle and would always brighten your day. There was never a person who ever had a bad word to say about him which is a testament to his excellent character. Although he is gone his loving impression on our family, friends and anyone he met will endure forever. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday July 17, 2017 at DeMarco Stone Funeral Home Inc 1605 Helderberg Ave Rotterdam from 9 am to 12 pm. Immediately following a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 pm at St Anthony’s Church Schenectady. Interment will be private. Arrangements entrusted to the RJ DeLuccia Funeral Services
