Valerie Lynn Loika

Valerie Lynn Loika, age 52, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, at Ellis Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Valerie was born on August 4th, 1973, in Schenectady, NY to Sharon L. Burns and the late Alexander Loika.

After graduating from Scotia-Glenville High School, Class of 1991, Valerie began working at Friendly’s in Rotterdam Square Mall. She later began her longstanding career with Price Chopper/Market 32 holding various positions within many of their stores throughout the Capital Region. At her heart, Valerie loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends, but most of all her grandchildren. Valerie loved motorcycle rides, attending her granddaughter’s sporting games and watching sunrises and sunsets. Valerie was a force to be reckoned with and unapologetically herself. Valerie was an amazing Mom, Grammy, daughter and friend to all.

Valerie is survived by her loving mother, Sharon “Sherry” L. Burns (Mike); her beloved fiancé, Kord A. Stehr; her cherished daughter, Ashley L. Lane-Welcome (Michael); her stepson, Tyler Stehr; her adored grandchildren, Riley, Madison and MJ; her dear brother, Brian Loika (Linda); nephew, Nathan; uncle, Francis Polomaine (Linda) and several cousins.

In addition to her father, Valerie is preceded in death by her aunt, Nancy Leach.

All are welcome to attend Calling Hours held on Monday, January 19th, 2026, from 4-7 PM, at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam, NY.

A Funeral Service to honor Valerie will be held the following morning, on Tuesday, January 20th, at 11 AM, at the funeral home.

Interment will take place privately for the family, in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Albany, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Valerie’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090.
