Thomas B Stern

Rotterdam-Mr. Thomas D. Stern, age 82, a lifelong area resident passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday evening, August 20, 2015 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady. He was born on May 14, 1933 in Niskayuna, son of the late William A. and Clara E. (Rogerzinski) Stern and educated in local schools. He obtained a business degree from Albany School of Business. Thomas shared a loving and wonderful 36 year union with his beloved Doreen. Mr. Stern was a United States Army veteran, enlisting in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1956 and served his country as an Army medic. He owned Stern Realty for many years and then he co-founded, co-owned and co-operated Doreen Ross Associates Real Estate, Schenectady where he was a dedicated real estate broker. Tom loved horse racing, traveling, and especially loved to spend time with family. He was also a dedicated NY Giants fan. Survivors include his beloved family; his wife of 36 years, Doreen A. (Miller) Ross; his children, Holly Montone of North Carolina, Cindy Scheidt and husband Thomas of Arizona, Raymond Dennis Ross, Jr. and wife Kari of Rotterdam, and Jessica Kozlowski and husband Gregory of Guilderland; his grandchildren, Sondra, John, Mark, Luke, Zachary, Elizabeth, Josh and Thomas; siblings, Donald Stern and wife Jan of North Carolina, and Richard Stern and wife Marie of Ballston Lake; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his siblings, William Stern, Florence Sutherland, Joyce Limbert and Mike Stern. The family will receive relatives and friends at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam on Sunday, August 23, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. The funeral will commence at 10 am on Monday, August 24th from Rotterdam United Methodist Church, 1915 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam with Pastor Karen Smith, officiating. Procession will follow to Memory Gardens Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.
