Thelma Askew

SCHENECTADY - Thelma Ann (McBurney) Askew, 86, of Schenectady, New York, passed away on April 19, 2024. Born on August 13, 1937, she was the only daughter of Elizabeth White McBurney and Alexander Thomas McBurney, and the beloved wife of Richard Askew.

Thelma had a fulfilling life where she pursued various interests and roles. She worked in the retail and real estate industries before dedicating herself to being a loving housewife. In her free time, Thelma enjoyed reading, spending time with friends, and being with her grandchildren.

Thelma is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Chapman (Stephen) and Robin Izzo (Dominick); Grandchildren, Emery Chapman McDonald, Dominick Izzo V(Abby), and Alexander S. Izzo; and several Great Grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth White McBurney, her father, Alexander McBurney, and her husband, Richard Askew.

A private service to honor Thelma's life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children at 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-0050.

The Demarco-Stone Funeral Home in Rotterdam, New York, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements. Thelma will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the love she shared with those around her.
