Schenectady- Sylvia E. Wilson, entered into the arms of our Lord on Sunday August 11, 2024 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Born in Tallahassee, Florida, Sylvia was the daughter of the late Charles and Anna Chaires Moore. She was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and the Manhattan Hospital School of Nursing. A Registered Nurse, Sylvia worked in the Psychiatric Dept. at the Albany Veteran’s Administration Hospital and later Ellis Hospital, retiring in 1993. A longtime member of the Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Schenectady, she was active, singing in the church choir, and a member of the Floral Club. Among her passions were traveling and shopping. She was renowned through the community as a sharp dresser.
She was the beloved wife of 59 years to William Wilson who passed away in 2015; beloved sister of Clara Stamper of Schenectady, the late Mary Clark and the late Catherine and Lillie Mae Moore. Beloved stepmother to Sue (Willie) Dean of Schenectady and the late Dawn Wilson; Sylvia is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 11-1pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam, followed by a 1pm funeral service. Burial will follow in Parkview Cemetery.
