Sylvia Mary (Mancini) Palombo

May 4, 1921 — February 9, 2022

Schenectady - Sylvia Mary Palombo, 100, passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 just 3 months short of her 101st birthday. Born in Rotterdam Junction, Sylvia was the daughter of the late Peter and Mariantonia Capobianco Mancini. Sylvia graduated from Nott Terrace High School. She was employed as a clerk with New York State DCJS in Albany for 22 years. Sylvia was a longtime, faithful member of St. Anthony’s Church. She had a deep love for God and was devoted to her Catholic faith. She also spent many years as a volunteer at St. Clare’s Hospital. Her most cherished time was spent with family. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Nicholas, who died in 1971, and her 5 siblings, James Mancini, Lawrence Mancini, Mary Cammarota, Anna Ferri and Carmela Lastarza. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Barbara Smith (the late Phillip), Maryann Ziobrowski (the late William) and Judy Williams (Bill), her grandchildren, Lori Warner (Tom), Lisa McLaughlin, Nicki Ann Hayward, David Ziobrowski (Susan), John Ziobrowski (Jennifer), Kristen Graber (Josh), Tricia Ritchie (Brian), Sherri Montross (Adam), Maria Williams (Keith) and Nicholas Williams (Melissa), as well as many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend its thanks and appreciation to Community Hospice, especially Brittney and Tara, as well as Eddy Palliative Rehab Association, Erin and Joan for their thoughtful care. A calling hour will be held on Saturday from 8:15 am – 9:15 am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Anthony’s Church, 331 Seward Place. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Sylvia’s family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made in her name to Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany, NY 12205.
