Sylvia Mary (Rotundo) Navaretta

Sylvia M. Navaretta, 86, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Glendale Nursing Home. Born in Schenectady, Sylvia was the daughter of the late Constantine and Santina (Cashera) Rotundo. Sylvia graduated from Nott Terrace High School and worked for many years as a teacher's aide at Mohonasen Schools. A communicant of St. Gabriel's Church, Sylvia was a member of the church's choir, the Women's Club and she created the Cookie Walk at the church's holiday craft fair. She was also a member of the Rotterdam Senior Center and Home Bureau. Sylvia made a positive impact in all lives she touched. She was known for her kindness and good nature. She called anyone who knew her "friend".In addition to watching Soap Operas, her favorite thing to do was cook and she loved to share her creations with everyone. Sylvia is predeceased by her siblings, Louise Buonome and Dominick Rotundo and her niece, Laurie Powers. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 67 years, Vincent B. Navaretta, her daughters, Sylvia Benson (J. Alden II) of Texas, Deborah Navaretta of Scotia and Denise Goodell (Robert) of Glenville, grandchildren, J. Alden Benson III, Aubrey Magyar (Justin), Jonathan Goodell (Jacqualyne) and Jason Goodell (Kaitlyn), her great grandchildren, Angelo, Luciana, Lorenzo, Aliyah and Claire, as well as her sister, Antoinette Valentino and brother, Henry Rotundo. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews. Sylvia's family would like to thank the staff at Glendale Home and Volunteers from Community Hospice for all their help over the last 3 years. A prayer service will take place at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., on Tuesday morning, May 24th at 10:45am followed by a mass of Christian burial that will be celebrated at 11:30am at St. Gabriel's Church, 3040 Hamburg St. in Rotterdam. A visitation will be held Monday evening from 4-6pm at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be in St. Cyril's Cemetery.
