Schenectady- Sterling C. "Dutch" Baker, 78, passed away suddenly at Ellis Hospital on December 16, 2014 surrounded by his beloved family. Sterling was born in Kingston NY on September 12, 1936 a son of the later Sterling and Claire Dubois Baker. He was educated in local schools. In February of 1959 he entered into the United States Army and served until his honorable discharge in 1965. Sterling married his beloved wife of 51 years Eileen Ferris on April 14 1963. Until his retirement Sterling was employed in the Gas Turbine Dept of General Electric in Schenectady, NY. He was an avid dog lover and loved classic country music.He was a member of the Ulster Lodge #193 for many years.He was also a dedicated Cub Scout leader in the 1970's.He was a knowledgeable history buff and a loving devoted husband, father and grandfather.His favorite hobby was painting statues of angels and gnomes. Sterling is survived by his wife Eileen, his daughter Jeannie (Chris) Oakley of Rotterdam, his son Robert (Jennifer) Baker of Ballston Spa and his daughter Robin Baker (McKinley Walker) of Schenectady. He is also survived by his 5 beloved grandchildren. Carl Woodbeck, Jr. of Schenectady, Karen Claire "Kasey" Knoll of Texas, Matthew Baker of Ballston Spa, Rayna and McKinley Walker of Schenectady , 2 sistersAnn Lam of Altamont, NY,Eleanor (Nick) Dittmar of Rosendale,NY and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers John and Donald Baker and his sister Donna Light. Family and friends are invited to call at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, Inc. at 1605 Helderberg Avenue in Rotterdam on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 6 pm to 8 pm.Funeral services will begin at 8:15 am on Saturday December 20, 2014. Immediately following a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9am at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church on Pleasant Street in Schenectady. Interment will be private. The family respectfully requests that donations may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America 7 Mill Brook Road Wilton NH 03086
