Stephen G Endres Jr

Westmere - Stephen G. Endres Jr., 98, died on Monday, November 3, 2014. He was a resident of Westmere since 1961. He was born in North Albany on February 10, 1916. He was predeceased by his parents, Stephen G. and Mary E. (Mangine) Endres, his wife of 65 years, Virginia R. Cantwell Endres, a brother Mathias, a sister, Mary, granddaughter, Diana Trent and his daughter in law,Laura (Iabone) Endres. Survivors include a sister, Josephine Pellerin of Guilderland. Three children; Michael (Peg) Endres, Susan Pignata, and Robert (Jacqueline) Endres. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Stephen was a 1935 graduate of CBA in Albany. He joined the Army in 1940 and was a member of the 101st & 801st tank destroyer battalion. He then joined the Air Corps and learned how to fly. He flew 72 combat missions with the 80th fighter squadron in the South Pacific flying P38's. He was awarded several medals including the Purple Heart. After the war he worked as a service technician & service manager for Friden, Singer and TRW Business Machines. Stephen enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks and spending time with his friends on Cossayuna Lake. Stephen was a member of North Albany Post of American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the 80th fighter squadron headhunter association. He was also a communicant of Christ the King Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11am Monday, November 10,at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumpter Ave, Guilderland. A calling hour at church, from 9:45am to 10:45am will immediately precede the Mass. Interment, with military honors, will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
