Schenectady- Stefano (Stephen) Coppola, 82, of Schenectady, New York, passed away peacefully earlyTuesday morning, April 11, 2023, with the love and support of his family nearby. He fought a long and courageous battle with diabetes, heart and liver disease. He is now at peace in the loving arms of his mother and father within the Garden of God where he longed to be. Stephen was born in the small town of Ruviano in the Province of Caserta, Italy on April 3, 1941. He came to the United States from Italy in 1966 with his family and proudly worked for the New York State Office of General Services, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service. Stephen was a member of theGabriele D'Annunzio Lodge #321, OrderSons of Italy, Rotterdam, and before that a long time member of the Rotterdam Soccer Club where he spent many hours watching soccer and playing cards or Bocce Ball with his friends and relatives. He also enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden in the warm summer months and never met a fruit he didn’t love, especially the Concord grapes he grew on the vines in his backyard. Stephen was predeceased by his loving parents, Pasquale and Mariangela Coppola,his sister-in-law, Titina Coppola, and his brothers-in-law, Pietro DiMeo and Vincenzo DiCostanzo. He is survived by his siblings, Angelo Coppola of Amsterdam, Carmela DiMeo of Schenectady and Teresa DiCostanzo of Rotterdam. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces Domenico (Lisa) DiCostanzo of Rotterdam, Angela (Bruno) Bianchi of Clifton Park, Maria (Patrick) O’Connor of Rotterdam, Lara (John) Carbine of Berkeley Heights, NJ, Pasquale (Jean Marie) Coppola and Gino Coppola of Amsterdam, Mariangela (Timothy) Coppola of Scotia, Giuseppe DiMeo of Rhode Island, Maria DiMeo and Pasquale DiMeo of Schenectady; many cousins locally and in Italy; and great nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a Mass of Christian Burial commencing at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church,1255 Pleasant St. Schenectady where his life will be celebrated. Funeral procession will follow to Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna where entombment will take place. Members of the Rotterdam Sons of Italy will pay their respects at the funeral home on Saturday morning at 8:30 am. A calling hour will take place at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home,1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., on Saturday.
