Stanley L Grupe

Guilderland – Stanley L. Grupe, age 84, of Guilderland, New York, moved into Heaven on January 5, 2018, surrounded by his family that loved him very much, at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn, after a long battle with illness. Stan was born in Schenectady, NY, on July 26, 1933, to Arthur R. Grupe and Marian E. Bulson Grupe. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1951 and lived in Schenectady most of his life. Soon after high school graduation Stan accepted a job with Niagara Mohawk only to be drafted into the US Army in 1953. He served in the 11th Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY, and was honorably discharged in 1955. After discharge he returned to his job at Niagara Mohawk in Schenectady where he worked 41 years until his retirement in 1992. 64 years ago, in 1953, at Lisha Kill Reformed Church in Colonie, Stan married the love of his life, Jean Miller Grupe, whom he honored, protected, and loved until his dying day. Stanley is not only survived by Jean but 4 children as well, Jacqueline Marr (Robert) of Guilderland; Kenneth Grupe (Jennifer) of Niskayuna; Janet Budka (John) of Colonie; and Laurie Smith (Steven) of Syracuse. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Robert Marr (Sarah); Timothy Budka (fiancée Melissa); Curtis Grupe, Sarah Smith, and Alison Smith. Stanley was accomplished at woodworking and often donated items to charity as he loved his fellow man. He was dedicated to his family and was an active member of Lisha Kill Reformed Church in his younger years and Helderberg Reformed Church later in life serving on the Consistory in both churches. A funeral service for Stan will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at 11:00am at Helderberg Reformed Church with burial to follow at Memory Gardens in Colonie. Visiting hours will be held at the church prior to the service at 10:00am.
