Shirley B. Stevens, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Hospice inn at St. Peter's Hospital with family by her side. Born in Saratoga on June 27, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Robert and Anna Friedel Brehm.She grew up in Cohoes where she attended Public School, graduating from Cohoes High School with the class of 1951, and went on to study Political Science at Skidmore College. She is survived by her loving husband Roy and two sons, Scott (Coleen Burke) of Burnt Hills and Mark (Lisa Close) of Palm Coast, FL.In addition she has grandchildren Greg (Lindsey Walthers), Todd and Daniel, along with two great grandchildren Calvin and Claire. Shirley enjoyed sailing and boat-camping on Lake George with family and friends for over 4 decades. She could be found in Red Rock Bay many sunny weekends. She was a very active person who prior to marriage had, with neighbors,organized and managed a girl scout troop in Cohoes.Later as a stay at home mom she was never at home. She would be out at every extracurricular event her sons attended through the school years, and volunteered at Albany Medical Center Hospital, managed a women's tennis league and became a Master Gardener of Cornell Cooperative Extension, where she organized and managed agricultural trips along the east coast for many years. Shirley was perhaps best known for her spectacular knitting creations, really works of art. She shared her knitting and crocheting talents and skill as a teacher at Guilderland Public Library and at her home. Her home classes included visitors from around the world.A group from South Korea became close friends. The family would like to thank the people of Mercycare, St. Peter's Hospital and the Hospice Inn for there compassionate care and support for Shirley.
