Shirley (Barnes) Ammons

Shirley Barnes Ammons, 92, passed peacefully at her home on Friday, July 15, 2022. Born in Malone, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elma Denny Barnes. Shirley was employed for many years as a waitress at the Silver Diner in Schenectady and later at Top’s Diner in Rotterdam. She also worked for several years as a secretary with Benche Inc. in Schenectady. In addition to her parents, Shirley was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Daniel J. Ammons, who died in 1996 and her brother, Alfred Barnes. Shirley is survived by her loving son, Edward L. Shoemaker (Ramona) of Mechanicville, NY, her daughters, Sheila Monks (Bob) of Galway and Betty Jean Root (Larry) of Rotterdam, her ex- daughter in law, Chris Shoemaker, one sister, Jane Wager of Burnt Hills, her step brothers and sisters, Norma Bennet, Sandra Bailey, Clyde Shoemaker and Omer Shoemaker and special friends Jean and Phyllis. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren 5 great great grandchildren. Shirley has requested there be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
