Scott Robin "Tahawus" Haile

March 25, 1958 — March 9, 2021

Shinnecock/Rotterdam - Scott R. Haile entered the Spirit World on March 9, 2021, peacefully at the home of his loving daughters. Born on March 25, 1958, he was the eldest child of the late Richard H. and Elizabeth “Chee Chee” (Bess) Haile. Scott, known to many as “Skinny Scotty” was raised in Rotterdam, NY and attended Schalmont Central Schools where he made countless life-long friendships. He was fostered by Miss Adelphena Logan and her brother Al of the Onondaga Nation as well as the Tubbs family while attending Auburn High School. Scott went on to become a printer and spent most of his tenure with the Times Union Newspaper. He was married to Sharon Bright on June 29, 1985 for 15 years during which they raised two girls. He later re-located to his indigenous land, the Shinnecock territory in 2002. Scott was fun loving, kind hearted and had a brilliant mind which drew many people to love him. He had a love for words which led him to become a Spelling Bee victor in grade school. A skilled gymnast from the age of four, when he first climbed atop the roof of his home garage, Scott later became a New York State champion on the trampoline in the 1970s. Scott was also a music, motorcycle and hot-rod enthusiast and had many other skills and hobbies. He enjoyed attending music festivals from NY to Colorado where he would hitchhike to and from on many occasions, developing many stories and memories to pass on. Scott has touched the lives and hearts of many who will never forget his charming smile and exuberant personality. Scott is survived by his devoted daughters Newequash and Kaysha Haile, siblings Holly Haile Thompson (Harry), Christina Tarrant (Donald) and Benjamin Haile and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at a later date. Donations in Scott’s memory can be made either to the Padoquohan Medicine Lodge at PO Box 5078, Southampton, NY 11969.
