Schenectady – Samuel “Sam”A. Mongrella, 86, of Clement Ave passed away peacefully at home on January 11, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Schenectady on June 13, 1930 the son of the late Fred Angelina Maietta Mongrella. He was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. For over thirty years he was employed as the cameraman and film editor at WRGB retiring in 1991. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict as a frogman. Sam married his beloved wife Theresa Borawski on April 24, 1954. She predeceased him in 1995. The couple enjoyed travelling to Maine And Vermont and in his later years Sam especially loved the casinos in Atlantic City and going on gambling cruises. He is survived by his sons Stephen and Lorene Borawski of Mariaville, Terry and Bev Borawski of Schenectady, 4 grandchildren Nicole (Michael) Lincoln of Alaska, Stephen Borawski Jr of Cohoes ,Thomas (Kelly) Farnum of Glenville and T.J. Borawski Jr of Williamstown Mass. And 14 great grandchildren and one sister June Attanasio of Schenectady. Besides his wife Theresa he was also predeceased by his son Joseph Borawski in 2001. Family and friends are invited to call at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home Inc 1605 Helderberg Ave Rotterdam on Sunday January 15, 2017 from 4 pm to 7 pm. Funeral services will begin at 8:15 am on Monday January 16, 2017 at the funeral home. Immediately following a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 am at St Luke’s Church Schenectady. Interment will follow at St John’s Cemetery Brandywine Ave Schenectady. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorial donations may be made to St Jude’s Children Research Hospital 501 St Jude’s Place Memphis TN 38105 and or The Community Hospice( former Community Hospice of Schenectady ) 295 Valley View BLVD.
