Samuel Paul Anzalone

S. Paul Anzalone, 73 of Rotterdam, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Ellis Hospital. Born in Batavia, New York on July 25, 1939, Paul was the son of the late Salvatore and Martha (Burke) Anzalone. He graduated from Batavia High School and moved to Albany, NY in 1957. Paul retired from New York State Department of Transportation, Structures Division, as a Senior Civil Engineer (Structures) with over 38 years of service. He served on active duty and a veteran of the U.S, Air Force and New York Air National Guard 109th Tactical Airlift Wing for a combined total of 30 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. Among his many decorations are the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal. He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Union College in 1979, a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1997 and was elected to the Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society while at Union College. Paul was a New York State Licensed Professional Engineer, Life Member of Carman Volunteer Fire Department with over 40 years of Active Service and served as Sergeant, Lieutenant and Fire Department Treasurer, Past member of Rotterdam Fire District Three Board of Fire Commissioners, attended Saint Paul the Apostle Church in Schenectady and served as an Usher. He was a member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge 2157,Gabriele D'Annunzio Lodge 321, Sons of Italy, 109th TAW Alumni Association and NCO Club, VFW Hildebrand-Davis Post 1895, Noncommissioned Officer's Academy Graduate Association, Fireman's Association of the State of NY, Rotterdam Senior Citizens, NYS Association of Transportation Engineers, Air Force Sergeants Association, the Retired Enlisted Association, Highbridge Civic Association, was Past President of Association of Fire Districts Capital Area, Past Board of Directors for Region 1 of the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York and past Treasurer of the Weiss Grove Campers Association. In addition to his parents, Paul was also predeceased by first wife, Barbara Bleau Anzalone, in 1990, his second wife, Marie Criscione Anzalone, in 2008, and brother, Frank Anzalone in 2002. He is survived by two daughters; Maria Anzalone and Lisa Lagasse and one Son; Anthony Anzalone His grandchildren; Dana and Sara Maslanka, Kelsey Cerniglia, Anthony Anzalone, Samuel Paul Anzalone II, and Jenna Lagasse. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday evening from 4-7 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Friends and family are also invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul the Apostle Church on Wednesday at 9am. Entombment, with military honors, will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Masoleum, in Niskayuna.
