Sam W Spring

April 26, 1940 — September 7, 2022

Rotterdam - Sam W. Spring, 82 of Rotterdam died Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a valiant fight with cancer. Sam graduated from Guilderland High School’s Class of 1957 and has participated in many reunions and get-togethers with these friends since then. Sam enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1962. He was then hired by the New York State Police where he worked as a Trooper until the mid-70’s when he realized that his real calling was in the business of Classic Cars. So he struck out on his own into the Classic and Specialty Car restoration, detailing, appraising and trading business. Though he restored many types of classic cars, his main interest was in the Avanti automobile. Over the years, Sam entered his prize Avantis in various meets and shows throughout the Northeast and beyond, winning many trophies and 1st place prizes. Sam was an active member of the Avanti Owners Association International Inc. (AOAI) and a Life Member of the Studebaker Drivers Club Inc. Sam was also an avid motorcyclist and ‘took a ride’ locally almost daily. But he also took numerous trips accompanied by his wife Elaine (2 on a bike) across the country. They saw all 48 states and many national parks, including Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and Yosemite, and trips through Death Valley. Sam was born in Albany to the late Ralph Spring and the late Margaret Clute Spring. He was predeceased by his son Garrick Spawn. He is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Elaine Senus Spring, his sister Susan Spring of Rotterdam, two brothers, John (Laura) Spring of Montrose, NY and Kent (Susan) Spring of Portland, ORas well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service, with military honors, will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 12 noon at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Schenectady, NY.
