Rotterdam - Sal Cannavo, 67, a lifelong resident of Schenectady, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Albany Medical Center with loved ones by his side. Born to the late Philip and Linda Cannavo, he was a graduate of Draper High School and received his Bachelors Degree from Bridgeport University in Connecticut. Well known in the area, he was the former owner of Modern Shoe Store in downtown Schenectady, briefly taught in the Schenectady schools, had the Sal Cannavo Band and owned the New York City Café I& II in Schenectady and Albany. He also had the "Sal Cannavo Show" on local TV. Known for his love of music, generous spirit, and infectious personality, Sal devoted his life to entertaining and enriching the lives of everyone who had the privilege of meeting him.A beloved father, husband, grandfather, and friend, when he was not entertaining at weddings, parties, or graduations, he was writing songs or dedicating his time to bringing joy to patients at area nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Sal leaves behind his beloved wife Catherine J.Pereicich SpearsCannavo; his sister Linda Cable (Bernie); his 4 children RaphelPeralta (David), Paula La Joy (Jon) both of Rotterdam, NY;Laura Baker (Chris) of Mooresville, NC; and Jennifer Bezek (Marc) of Atlanta, GA;and 12 grandchildren, Juliana, Evalyse, Alessia& Josiah Peralta; Clarissa, Skylar & Jackson Baker; Damien & Ainsley Bezek;Jon Jr., Matthew & Elizabeth La Joy. Calling hours will be held at Berean Baptist Church on 158 Route 146 in Guilderland Center on Tuesday, November 3rd, from3 to 7pm with a small service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Sal's memory to the Berean Baptist Church, Light in the Dark Church or The Bridge Church.
