Sadie H (Martino) Guerra

d. August 15, 2017

Sadie H. Guerra, 95, passed away peacefully and prayerfully at her Schenectady home on Tuesday, August 15, 2017. Born in Schenectady, in 1922, she was the eldest daughter of loving parents, Agnes and Emidio Martino. She was raised with her two much loved sisters, Rosemary and Jean; part of a wonderful extended family of grandmother, aunts and uncles. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, in Schenectady, was an important part of her life. She belonged to the Children of Mary, Mount Carmel Players and Mount Carmel Senior Choir. She had great devotion to God and to Mary. Sadie passed on the feast of the Assumption of Mary, looking at her crucifix. There was mutual, unfailing love between Sadie and Frank, her husband of 67 years. Their home was full of laughter, faith and outstanding Italian cooking. Sadie was creative, talented with her hands, making beautiful hats, Halloween costumes, and needlepoint. She worked at Modern Bridal Shoppe as a salesperson - always to be counted on for an honest opinion, attention to detail and kindness to each customer. Sadie was loving beyond words to her daughter, Kathleen, son-in-law, William, and adored grandchildren, Rachael and Eric. Her qualities of pure goodness, kindness, courage, generosity, optimism and unselfish caring for those in need only touch the surface of a life well lived. Sadie was blessed to have round the clock care by women who became family. Our deepest thanks to Serina, Nicole, Sandra, Elizabeth, Shannie, Brenda, Kim and Marissa. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Frank Guerra, her sister, Jean Martino, and her best friend, Rose Cotugno. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Rosemary and Robert Sullivan of Burnt Hills, NY, her daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and William Jensen of Scotia, beloved grandchildren, Rachael and Eric Jensen of Saratoga and Scotia and wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 18th from 6-8 p.m. at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home,1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin on Saturday, August 19, 8:15 am from the funeral home, followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke’s Church, 1241 State St. Schenectady.
