Schenectady - Ruth DePoalo, 89, passed away early on Tuesday, October 4th, 2016 at the Ellis Residential and Rehab Center. Ruth was born in Schenectady on January 24th, 1927, the daughter of the late Michael and Christina Friello. Ruth worked for a short time at General Electric, later working for the City of Schenectady as secretary of property management for 30 years until her retirement. Ruth was a communicant of Mt.Carmel Church and volunteered at many church events. She dedicated her life to raising and unconditionally loving her family. She will be so fondly remembered for her Sunday dinners, holiday gatherings and her chocolate cake lessons, to which she gave to each of her children. Ruth is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Salvatore DePoalo, as well as her siblings, Dominic Friello, Joseph Friello, Mary Pallotta, Carmella Montone and Claire Comanzzo, also her in-laws, Carmen DePoalo, Mary Schwab, Antoinette Dean and Josephine Carach. Ruth leaves behind her loving children, Carmen DePoalo (Paula), Christine Pierce (Tom) and Phillip DePoalo (Carolann), her 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. She also leaves behind her special friends, Sandra and Bobby Abeel. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 6th from 5-8pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Funeral services will begin Friday morning at 8:15am from the funeral home, followed at 9am by a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at Mt. Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant Street, Schenectady. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Contributions in Ruth’s name can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
