Slingerlands, NY-Ruth Hopfield Alliger of 40 Autumn Lane, Slingerlands passed away on Tuesday, September 1st, 2015 in her home. Ruth was born May 12, 1918 in Syracuse, New York to John Hopfield and Reine Coursen. She was one of seven children and grew up in Berkeley, California and Toledo, Ohio. Ruth was the wife of Glen Alliger, who passed away in 2004. Ruth received her master's degree in Chemistry from State University of Iowa and taught high school chemistry for many years. After retiring, she was able to focus her time on family, gardening, and photography. She was a past president of her local chapter of American Association of University Women, and a member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church in Hurdle Mills, North Carolina. She lived for the last eight years at Beverwyck Retirement Community in Slingerlands, New York.She is survived by one brother, four children, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, a contribution in Ruth's name may be made to the Salvation Army.The funeral service will commence at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2015 from Guilderland's DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home on Western Ave (Route 20) with the Rev. Deborah O'Connor Slater, officiating.Relatives and friends are also invited to call at DeMarco-Stone on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., prior to the funeral service.Burial will be held in North Carolina.
